Finn Balor On Wanting To Get His Friends Jobs In WWE, Entrance Idea, Nakamura Keeping His Name
Recently, NXT Champion Finn Bálor appeared on Sam Roberts' Wrestling Podcast to discuss a number of topics including Bálor's attempts at getting jobs at WWE for his friends in the professional wrestling business, whether he would have liked to have kept the Prince Devitt name in WWE and whether he is in any rush to get to WWE's main roster.
On the topic of getting jobs at WWE for his friends, Bálor lightheartedly admitted that it has been one of his goals in moving to WWE.
"We've got an expression back home, saying 'jobs for the boys'. And basically, get your foot in the door and jam it open and then get as many of your mates here as you can. And that [has] been my main objective since I got here." Bálor continued, "so far so good. There [are] still a couple of names on the list that I'm trying to sneak in the back window and things like that."
When asked whether he is jealous that 'The King Of Strong Style' Shinsuke Nakamura got to keep his name in WWE, Bálor said that he has no regrets over changing his ring name from Prince Devitt to Finn Bálor, as he felt that he needed to reinvent himself for his WWE run.
"I believe that everything happened exactly the way it was supposed to happen. I've said before that a lot of adults that were fans of New Japan here in the United States were aware of who Prince Devitt was, but when I walk out at an NXT show now, I don't think anybody really remembers and what the most humbling thing for me is that I see kids at our shows who have Finn Bálor shirts that are six or seven years old and they have no idea who Prince Devitt is or was. They only know Finn Bálor. It was something that I felt kind of was a new chapter for me and I find I kind of have to cut loose from the past to fully embrace what I've got to do here at NXT and it was the right decision and I don't regret it one bit."
Apparently, Bálor considered riding a horse to the ring for his NXT TakeOver: Dallas entrance, but thought better of it after some research.
"With the Texas [theme], I kind of had this idea that I wanted to come out on a horse and I can't ride a horse at all. But, of course, on the spur of the moment, I said, 'let me ask Google has anybody ever tried to enter on a horse in a wrestling match', and, apparently, Triple H, himself, had attempted it at one time, but they couldn't can the horse a lot, so he kept bucking at the rehearsal, so they canned the idea."
Bálor indicated that he is in no hurry to move on from NXT to make his way to WWE's main roster insofar as he is still not a finished product.
"Under the guidance of, like, Terry Taylor and Matt Bloom, especially at the [WWE] Performance Center, I would say I'm three times the athlete [and] probably 10 times the brain that I was when I came here and, like, people say, 'ah, when are you getting the call up? When are you getting the call up? When are you going to be on [WWE Monday Night] RAW?' Literally, the longer that's held off and the longer I get to spend in NXT, and it's not 'stuck' in NXT. I get the opportunity to be in NXT. The longer that happens, the more I am prepared when I get there and it's an investment in time, but when I get there, I'm going to be ready and I'm going to take over."
