Conor McGregor On Going For Another UFC Championship, If He Will Vacate His Title For It
Conor McGregor made waves, as he's been prone to do last night, scoring a massive 13-second victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 194. After what was admittedly a nasty weight cut, McGregor mentioned that he has aspirations of moving to 155 pounds for a shot at the lightweight title.
At the UFC 194 post-fight press conference, McGregor shot down any and all ideas of vacating his 145-pound title, saying instead he'd be a dual champion. Members of McGregor's camp had previously stated UFC 194 could be his last weight cut to 145 pounds.
"I'll tell you one thing that won't be happening, If I go up to the lightweight division, there's no way in hell that I'm vacating my belt. That's not happening. There will be a belt on one shoulder, and a belt on the other," McGregor said.
Conor pointed to how active he likes to stay as a reason for him to not vacate either title. He said that if he becomes a two-division champion, he'd defend both of them with regularity.
"I understand why previously other fighters wouldn't do it. Look how many fights I've had in the last year. I stay busy. I stay fresh. So when I go to lightweight and take that lightweight belt, I will stay the featherweight champion also. I will be a dual weight champion. There's no going up and vacating. The belt will still be active because I am active."
