Ronda Rousey Says She Isn't Leaving Her Coach, Talks About Mother's Disapproval Of Edmond, More
Ronda Rousey has come out of hiding — well, sort of.
Just under a month after her stunning upset at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193, Ronda Rousey has returned to the limelight via a lengthy interview with ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. During the course of the interview, Rousey stated that she's not leaving Glendale Fighting Club or head coach Edmond Taverdyan.
'"Of course I'm staying (with Edmond Tarverdyan)," Rousey told ESPN. "That's my mom's opinion, not mine."
Taverdyan came under fire after questionable cornering tactics, telling Rousey she was fine during the fight with Holm. Rousey's mother, World Champion judoka AnnMarie DeMars also spoke out about Taverdyan ahead of the fight, calling him a "terrible person." Rousey said this didn't affect her.
"It wouldn't be the first time she disagreed with where I was training or what I was doing or who I was getting coached by. "If anything it's almost like normal at this point for us to have disagreements about my training and coaches. We're both athletes. We both fought. I just have a different personality. The same things that work for her won't work for me," Rousey said.
It's worth noting there was a mass exodus at Glendale Fighting Club, with Jessamyn Duke, Shayna Baszler and Marina Shafir all going to CSW, while Jake Ellenberger returned to King's MMA following a stint with GFC.
