Former WCW/WWF Wrestler Criticizes Lance Storm's Twitter Comments Regarding The Ascension

Veteran independent wrestler Diafullah Dobashi welcomed Bob Cook to the most recent installment of his podcast, Dobashi's Radio Takedown (Episode 28). Cook wrestled for NWA early in his career, he worked in WCW from 1988 to 1994 and had a brief stint in WWF in 1995. Trained by Boris and Dean Malenko, Cook is perhaps best known for his work as Masked Superstar #2.

During the show, Cook answered e-mails from Dobashi's listeners, commenting on Jon Jones' drug test results and discussing the differences between public perceptions of boxing, UFC and professional wrestling. Later in the show, a listener sent in a question asking Cook to share his opinions regarding Lance Storm's recent public complaints about the Ascension's controversial promo on Raw. As we reported earlier this week, Storm posted a series of tweets during Monday Night Raw, sharing his distaste for the Ascension's mic work regarding Road Warrior Hawk.

"Yeah, if it's true that he's not going to watch any more just because of that, well then Lance storm falls into that category I like to call the 'idiot' category," said Cook. "Why would he stop watching because of that? I posted something because of that too. I thought it was disrespectful. I was a Road Warriors fan. I knew Hawk. I knew Animal. They beat me up a couple times in the ring?not for real. Guess what? They knew how to work! But the point is this: It was like a five-minute segment of the show. If you're not going to watch again because of that, well then you are a moron and I'm saying that yes, Lance?if he's not watching wrestling any more and he's a wrestler and he likes to commentate about wrestling? What's he going to commentate about? Ring of Honor? That'll put you to sleep in about two seconds!"

To be clear, Storm's tweets specifically indicated he was turning off Raw for the duration of that particular episode of Raw and not necessarily that he is permanently boycotting WWE.

Cook said he thought the Ascension looked like "clowns that didn't finish putting their makeup on" and that he thought that the reference to the Road Warriors was unnecessary, adding he was glad that JBL stuck up for Hawk and Animal via his commentary. He also mused that Vince McMahon may be sabotaging NXT graduates who make it to the main roster by setting them up to look like fools.

He also said that the current generation of fans doesn't know enough about the old days of wrestling, suggesting that they should spend some time watching matches featuring workers like Gorgeous George.

Cook also noted that he is currently in the process of developing a podcast.
