Bret Hart Talks Reconciling With WWE, Not Liking Today's Product, Chris Jericho Criticism, Yokozuna

Bret talked about his return to WWE in 2010 and his reconciliation with Shawn Michaels on Raw and said that he did have some trepidation to begin with. He said he wasn't sure if Shawn had really changed or if his new found religion was just a cover, but he said that eventually he thought I will never know unless I try. He went on to say that he firmly believes that if you are going to make peace with someone, you can't do it by half and that you need to do it completely. He said that earlier in the day on the Raw episode, Shawn had approached Bret and Bret had just said, "let's do it later on TV so the showdown between the two was the real reconciliation." He said that all in all, he was very appreciative of the return and said that it fixed a lot of burnt bridges and healed a lot of old wounds.

He mentioned the Bret Hart appreciation night in Calgary on raw, and said that he had been on holiday in Hawaii when he was contacted by WWE. All they told him was that he would be honored but that he wouldn't want to miss it, and so he had to finish his vacation a few days early in order to make the show. He said that he wasn't expecting to be on TV at all, and was just expecting to address the crowd after the TV taping so he turned up wearing jeans and a t-shirt. He said that when he arrived, he was blown away by the effort of everyone, and said it was a very emotional and unexpected night.

The Compere allowed a few members of the crowd to ask questions. The first question was who did Bret consider to be his best opponent? Bret responded that he believes that Dynamite Kid was by far one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He talked about their first ever ladder match, and mentioned that during that match they had a botched spot and Hart broke his nose. He said that after the match he could fit his little finger in the side of his nose, and remembered that when he first told his mom that he wanted to be a pro wrestler she had said, "but Bret, what about your nose?!" and that he had promised her that he would never break it. He also mentioned that he had asked Dynamite how bad it was, and Dynamite had replied, "it's pretty f**king bad", and he said you always know it's bad when a wrestler refuses to lie to you!

Going back to the match, he mentioned that Dynamite Kid was the creator of the Tombstone piledriver and that at one point, Hart was laying on the mat looking up at the lights and Dynamite was holding the step ladder in the tombstone. He said that as a wrestler, no matter how you feel when you see something about to happen you can't move or protect yourself with your hands like a normal person would and as he was already busted open, he was really not looking forward to having a pretty sturdy step ladder hit him in his face. He committed himself to the move though and just waited for Dynamite to hit it. He then said that Dynamite Kid was so good that the ladder never even made contact, and that when he watched the tape back he couldn't tell that it didn't. He said that it was little things like that which made Dynamite one of the greatest of all time.

Another question was asked of "out of All wrestlers past and present, who would you like to tag up with?" Bret responding saying that it wasn't really a great question, as if someone had said we are going to put you into a tag team, he would have replied, "no you are not!" He did then say that the only people he could think of would be The Undertaker, Stone Cold or even Shawn Michaels, but the storyline would have to be perfect to warrant the team up.

Another question was asked about some of his funniest memories from being on the road. Bret remembered Yokozuna wrestling in India where he had had very bad diarrhea and he said that Yoko was just about to hit Hart with the Bansai drop and Hart looked up to see a huge poop stain on his trunks. He said that it looked like he had sat in a huge bowl of pea soup. He laughed and said if you ever thought I moved fast when trying to get out of the Banzai drop, then that night was the quickest he had ever moved. He also said that when Yoko hit the mat he left a large pea green "stamp of approval" on the canvas in that corner.

Bret also remembered a time in Washington where they were in the locker room and heard a huge bang followed by rushing water, as though someone had dropped a firework in the toilet. He said that he and Undertaker looked around the corner and saw Yokozuna sitting on the floor, surrounded by a broken toilet, flooding water and covered in poop as he had broken the toilet when he had sat down. He mentioned that this was when Yoko was at his biggest and was nearly 700 lbs. He said that Yoko was almost in tears and was holding his hand up for someone to help him up, and both Bret and Taker were trying to keep themselves from laughing at the sight. He mentioned that Taker kept ducking back around the wall to laugh and would then look back to act concerned. He also said that because of the poop, neither of them were going near Yoko. Bret did point out that the broken porcelain had cut a large gash in Yoko's leg. Bret also mentioned a flight to Hong Kong where he slept most of the way, but every time he woke up he would see wrestlers doing all sorts of things. He said that the flight was about 9 hours, and that by the end the flight crew and other passengers in first class all hated wrestling and all wrestlers. He never mentioned any names but did comment that there were businessmen asleep who had nothing to do with the wrestlers but had shaving foam heaped onto their heads and various appendages.

The final question was asked "what do you think of the current product?" and Hart replied that he had been a huge fan of CM Punk and felt that Punk was one of the few true innovators that are in pro wrestling today. He said that he doesn't really like the product much as too many wrestlers these days are too similar, and that everyone is a high flyer and there are no real big men left in the business. He said that he believes that variety is something that is sorely needed. He also said that a pet peeve of his, and what he considers to be a huge wrestling fail, is when the fans can see a wrestler calling their spots in the ring. He named Chris Jericho as an offender and said that you can always see Y2J reading the battle of Gettysberg to his opponents in each match. Hart also commented that he always strived to make everything as real as possible, and that he feels there are too many wrestlers who use moves that don't even hit their opponents, and he named John Cena for his five Knuckle Shuffle as a major offender. He said that he believes wrestling should be fake, but appear real.

All in all it was a very good night, and considering that MDA are primarily a company that doed professional darts events, I think they were very organized and everything went excellently. I did talk to one of the organizers and he mentioned that they are in talks with Ric Flair and The Undertaker about possibly doing something next year or in the near future. He did mention that as The Undertaker is working with the WWE, there is a lot of red tape that they have to clear before they can sign him to an event and so they have to wait until he is officially a free agent.

The event had been put on by MDA, and also featured a comedian, with two live wrestling matches put together by LCW (Leicester Championship Wrestling). There was also a big screen at one end of the room that showed a collection of Hart matches on a loop. The matches were not really the focal point of the evening for me and so I am afraid I can not really give much of a write up other than the first bout was won by a wrestler named Barricade and the second bout was a tag match won by Marc Massa and his partner (I forget his name).
