Why Shawn Michaels Was Fired By WWE After Only Two Weeks In 1987
By SHAUN RANFT
When Shawn Michaels and his tag team partner Marty Jannetty — known as The Midnight Rockers — were signed by WWE in 1987, their initial stint with the company lasted just two weeks. The duo was quickly fired by WWE, partly due to Michaels' immaturity and alleged fabrications of what really transpired.
While at a party with Jannetty, Michaels' immaturity led to him breaking a bottle over his head in an attempt to match their partying ways. While HBK claimed Vince McMahon didn't believe the story of them supposedly trashing the bar, the former-WWE chairman realized they weren't quite ready for his promotion.
Despite this early setback, Michaels and Jannetty were back in WWE a year later, making their second debut simply as The Rockers before splitting up. After HBK pursued solo action, he won plenty of championship gold while being prominently featured in many angles, and today, he's a two-time Hall Of Famer.
