12 Wrestlers Who Never Got A 5-Star Rating From Dave Meltzer
By THOMAS JAY HAYES
Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle has seemingly done everything — NCAA Division I wrestling champion, olympic gold medalist, Junior Nationals and the World Championship winner — which makes his lack of a 5-star rating almost insulting. With a laundry list of ratings ranging from 4.25 to 4.75, Kurt Angle never seems to be able to get over that final hump.
Jake Roberts
Jake “The Snake” Roberts was an elite both inside and outside the ring, able to hold the crowd in the palm of his hand with just his voice and talent. Despite that, Roberts has never been able to achieve a 5-star rating, with his highest solo rating being 4.0 and his highest overall match being a 4.5 against Konnan and Cien Caras at AAA La Revancha 1996.
Mr. Perfect
Curt Hennig AKA Mr. Perfect truly lived up to his name, being perfect at every sport he played and showcasing surgical precision in the ring. Mr. Perfect never achieved a perfect score; in fact, he struggled to get above a 4, as his highest rating ever is 4.25 stars for a match vs. Bret Hart at King of the Ring 1993.
Edge
Edge has one of the most prolific careers in the history of wrestling, but despite his many intense matches, he has never been able to obtain the coveted 5 stars. His highest rated match was a 2021 Hell in a Cell at Crown Jewel against Seth Rollins which, despite being an absolute teeth-rattler, was only able to achieve a 4.75.
Kevin Owens
Even though he doesn’t have a typical wrestler's physique, Kevin Owens has been able to put together exciting matches throughout his prolific career. His highest rating was during a 4.75-star-rated affair at Money in the Bank 2021, with his highest solo match being a 4.5 against John Cena at Elimination Chamber 2015.
