WWE NXT Results (1/2): Matt Riddle Vs. Kassius Ohno, A Look Back At 2018, Year-End Awards

Tonight's special two-hour show features: Matt Riddle taking on Kassius Ohno, a look back at some of the big NXT moments in 2018, and NXT Year-End Award nominees are announced.
- Show opens with "In memory of" Gene Okerlund, who passed away at 76 years old.
- Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson open the show, they toss it to Cathy Kelley in the "NXT Control Center" for the recap of 2018 and the nominees in the NXT Year-End Awards.
- Kelley looks back at the six-man ladder match between Ricochet, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan, Velveteen Dream, Lars Sullivan and Killian Dain for the NXT North American Championship at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans from April.
Ricochet vs. Adam Cole vs. Lars Sullivan vs. Velveteen Dream vs. Lars Sullivan vs. Killian Dain (NXT North American Championship from NXT TakeOver: New Orleans)
We start part way into the match with Dream leaping off the ladder to hit an elbow drop on Sullivan. EC3 powerbombs Dream down on a ladder, Cole attempts to climb up to get the title, EC3 with a TKO off the ladder to the mat. Dain gets in on the action, puts a ladder down on EC3, Kain heads up to the second rope, Cole follows, but Dain ends up hitting a vader bomb down on EC3 with Cole on his back.
Ricochet back in the ring, Sullivan and Dain end up launching him back and forth across the ring. Dain looks for a crossbody on Sullivan, but is caught in midair and slammed down to the mat. Sullivan tries to climb up, Ricochet stops him, Ricochet begins climbing, Sullivan tilts the ladder back, Ricochet hits an insane moonsault off the ladder and down on Dain and Cole. Back in the ring, Ricochet hits a shooting star press on EC3. Dream back in the ring, eventually lays Ricochet on a ladder that's wedged between the turnbuckles and another ladder. Dream gets tripped up, but hits a rolling death valley driver on the ladder.
Outside the ring, Sullivan ends up sending EC3 down through a ladder on top of Dream. Dain lays a bridge from the apron to the announce table, puts Ricochet on it, Dain picks up Cole and hits a jumping sitting senton Ricochet. Sullivan and Dain battle in the ring with Sullivan winning that sequence. Sullivan climbs up, but Ricochet leaps on his back, wiping him out. Ricochet heads up, but Cole lifts the ladder and dumps Ricochet out of the ring. Cole races up the ladder to win the title and become the inaugural champion.
Winner: Adam Cole
- Cathy Kelley fast-forwards us to August at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, where Ricochet would defeat Cole to become the NXT North American Champion.
- Breakout Superstar of 2018 nominees: Ricochet, Dakota Kai, Lars Sullivan, Rhea Ripley, War Raiders, Lacey Evans, EC3, and Bianca Belair.

- We see clips of DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) and their highlights in NXT. After losing the titles, Ciampa would turn on Gargano and the two would embark on a brutal feud against one another.
- Johnny Gargano vs. Ciampa from NXT TakeOver: New Orleans is shown. If Gargano lost, he'd be gone from NXT for good, but if he won he would be reinstated to NXT. Clips are shown from the match and Gargano would eventually pick up the win over his former tag partner.
- Cathy Kelley talks about their NXT TakeOver: Chicago match where Gargano would get the win after hitting a DDT on exposed wood beams.
- Highlights are shown from Tommaso Ciampa defeating Aleister Black on an episode of NXT.
- Two weeks later Aleister Black had been attacked in the parking lot of Full Sail. NXT GM William Regal tries to figure out who took out Black, with only Nikki Cross being the one who saw what happened. Black would eventually make his way back to Full Sail looking for Gargano, who would superkick him from behind and reveal himself as the attacker.
- At NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Matt Riddle defeated Kassius Ohno in record time with a knee to the face. Last month, Ohno would attack Riddle from behind with a rolling elbow.
- Nominees for NXT Tag Team of the Year: Lorcan & Burch, Street Profits, Heavy Machinery, Moustache Mountain, War Raiders, and Undisputed Era.

- Going back to June for NXT TakeOver: Chicago, Undisputed Era defending their titles against Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. After an insane match, Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong were able to retain the titles. The stable managed to hold the tag titles into 2019.
- Nominees for Rivalry of the Year: Andrade "Cien" Almas vs. Johnny Gargano, Shayna Baszler vs. Ember Moon, Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa, Undisputed Era vs. Moustache Mountain, Velveteen Dream vs. Ricochet, Ciampa/Gargano/Black/Cross, and Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler.
- Nominees for Future Star of the Year: Matt Riddle, Mia Yim, Keith Lee, Forgotten Sons, Candice LeRae, Marina Shafir & Jessamyn Duke, Kona Reeves, and Dominik Dijakovic, and Io Shirai.

- Going back to NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn (August) where we see Bianca Belair take on Deonna Purrazzo. Belair would win the match via pinfall after hitting a torture rack into a facebuster. At NXT TakeOver: Phoenix in January, Belair will take on NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler.
- At NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Johnny Gargano takes on Aleister Black after revealing himself as Black's attacker in the parking lot. Highlights are shown from the match, Black would win after clocking Gargano with black mass.
- Two weeks ago, Tommas Ciampa would help Gargano defeat Black in a steel cage match. The former tag partners would hit their double kick finisher to take Black out. Backstage, Sarah Schreiber spoke with Gargano and asked if Gargano he was with Ciampa again, but Gargano dodge the question and just said he was the good guy in all of this. She tried again, asking if the plan all along was to work with Ciampa again, and he just talked about defeating Black.

Matt Riddle vs. Kassius Ohno
This is a rematch from Riddle and Ohno's impromptu challenge at NXT TakeOver: WarGames. Riddle tries for a high knee, misses, Ohno tries for a big strike of his own that misses. Kicks to Ohno's body, hits a couple running forearms, exploder suplex, running senton, knee to the midsection, and a kick to the back. Riddle continues to dominate Ohno until he cracks Riddle with a punch, followed up with a release suplex. Forearms and kicks ground Riddle in the corner. Riddle makes his way back up only to get kicked back down. Rolling senton by Ohno, cover, two.

Atomic drop on Riddle, chops to the chest, but Riddle hits a german suplex with the bridge for a two-count. Riddle with some more kicks to the chest, Ohno catches it, twists Riddle's toes, kick to the face, cyclone kick, cover, two. Back-and-forth strikes from both Superstars, pump kick drops Riddle, senton splash, one more time, tries for a third, but Riddle gets the knees up, looks for the bromission, Ohno taps out.
Winner: Matt Riddle via Submission
- Post-match, Ohno looks pretty disappointed, as he heads off, Riddle offers up a fist bump. Ohno turns his back on Riddle, stops for a moment, then makes his way back into the ring. Crowd with a "Bro-no" chant. Ohno gets on one knee to offer up a fist bump, Riddle goes for and ends up getting sent into the ring post a couple times and then the steps. Ohno with a rolling elbow that flattens Riddle. Ohno then steps on Riddles hair and gives him a fist bump.
