UFC On FOX 22 Results: How Did CM Punk's First UFC Opponent Fare?, Paige Van Zant
It was a difficult night for a pair of UFC prospects, as Paige VanZant and Sage Northcutt both lost via submission. The two suffered the same fate the last time they shared the spotlight.
VanZant was choked out by Michelle Waterson in the main event of UFC on FOX 22 Saturday night from the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. Last year, VanZant was bested by Rose Namajunas.
For Northcutt, his loss came in the second round when Mickey Gall locked in a rear-naked choke. Gall was the fighter to finished former WWE superstar CM Punk earlier this year in Punk's MMA debut.
Urijah Faber, who announced his plans to retire before the night, defeated Brad Pickett. "The California Kid" received a standing ovation from the hometown crowd prior to the fight. Once the Octagon door closed, he dominated Pickett, dropping him earlier but was never able to finish the Brit.
Leslie Smith and Irene Aldana earned "Fight of the Night," while Paul Craig and Waterson scored "Performance of the Night" bonuses. The attendance was announced at 13,136 with a live gate of $1,238,992.50.
