Prior to embarking on a professional wrestling career, Amore worked as a piano mover in New York, New York. On one occasion, the moving crew damaged singer/songwriter Alicia Keys' glass piano.

"We used to move pianos in New York City and one time, it was like eight guys on a piano that was made of glass. We were moving it for Alicia Keys. She was performing a concert. They were going up, like, 70 steps, right? And we got this one guy underneath, [and he got] it on his shoulder. I'm looking at this situation [and] I'm playing it smart. I got a future here. I don't know about some of the guys I worked with. I got my hands on the side and all of a sudden I see homie's knees just start wobbling. I just got out of dodge! This thing went down, like, 70 steps [and] it ended up crooked at the bottom. A few people were rattled." Amore added, "it was something I was glad to be a part of because it wasn't my piano and I'm still getting paid by the hour."

As for Cassady, the big man was studying to become a medical doctor before training to become a professional wrestler.

"Well, I was pre-med and my whole life I said I was going to be a doctor, but deep down, I just knew that I was going to be a pro wrestler." Cassady continued, "after my junior year of college, after taking all the sciences, which would be chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biology, I had to take the MCAT. Organic chemistry still gives me nightmares. But I was studying for the MCAT, which takes, like, six months [of] preparation and I just remember when I was studying for the MCAT that I thought, 'man, my heart just ain't in this'. I mean, my parents were expecting me to go to med school, so I really put my best effort into it, but while I was studying, I said, 'I can't do four more years of this', so I took the MCAT and after going into my senior year, I knew once I'm done with college, I'm going to start wrestling."

Although Amore and Cassady first met at The Cage in downtown New York as teenagers, Amore acknowledged that the two did not have any contact again till Amore made his way to FCW for a tryout.

"Well, we met. The thing is we met. We didn't know each other personally. We met. We remembered each other and when he saw me again, I had my tryout at FCW at the time in October of 2011, he recognized me because a video of me playing high school football against Victor Cruz. I did, like, this little promo and I slammed Victor Cruz, a german suplex on the field, and I was talking smack and he saw it on Barstool Sports because the week of the Super Bowl, it went viral, so he recognized me on my tryout, but I had no prior wrestling experience. Then, we got to shooting the breeze and we realized we had met each other playing hoops in New York City."

When asked whether the powers-that-be always saw the duo as a package deal, Amore claimed that they were really kept apart early on in their training.

"They actually tried, well, I'm not going to say who, but they tried to keep us apart for a long time. I had a ton of heat. Oh boy, did I have a ton of heat, literally, for the right reasons and the wrong reasons. I'm just who I am."

Amore said that it is too early to tell how long Enzo & Cass will remain a team as they are only now beginning their WWE main roster run.

"We're just getting started, so it's hard to look down the road that far because you never know how this thing pans out." Amore continued, "and hey, obviously, there [have] been tag teams that made a career as tag teams."

Conversely, 'Big Cass' stated that he would like to remain Amore's partner in the ring as long as the team is viable.

"As long as the company allows it. As long as we're selling t-shirts and action figures," Cassady admitted. "When it gets stale, eventually it's going to be time, but for now, we're just enjoying the ride."
