WWE NXT Recap (9/23): NXT Tag Title Match Headlines, Eva Marie Gets A Win, Tyler Breeze
Welcome to our WrestlingINC.com NXT coverage. Tonight's show is headlined by an NXT Tag Team Championship match.
Carmella vs. Eva Marie
They show Eva's botched pin from a few weeks ago, and play it up as controversy. Carmella dumps Eva out of the ring, but ends up getting suplexed and ran into the corner. The crowd starts chanting "Super Dragon" at Eva Marie after she mocks Carmella's catchphrase for the third time.
Carmella hits an elbow and a headscissors takedown. Carmella then runs Eva Marie into the turnbuckle and pins Eva, but there's no three count as the ref says Eva had her foot on the rope.Eva Marie tosses Carmella outside and wins by countout.
Winner: Eva Marie via countout
They're playing up that the ref doesn't count three on Eva Marie, apparently. Eva did barely get her foot on the rope.
- We see a Nia Jax vignette.
Tyler Breeze vs. Bull Dempsey
Dempsey lands a bunch of jabs, but gets pushed off the apron and slams into the ramp. We go to a commercial with Breeze in control, and return with him having a headlock applied. Dempsey busts out and no-sells some strikes before boxing up Breeze.
Dempsey keeps running into Breeze, and flattens the "Prince of Pretty." Dempsey keeps trying to go up to the top rope, but gets tossed to the mat and pinned. Breeze's foot was on the ropes.
Winner: Tyler Breeze via pinfall
- We see an Asuke vignette. She's up next.
- A highlight is shown of NXT's live events in Texas last week.
- William Regal is in the ring and puts over Kana, introducing her by that name, until her graphic changes to "Asuka." She's pumped up and says she's happy to be in NXT. She signs her contract. Dana Brooke and Emma interrupt, which earn them "Asuka's gonna kill you" chants.
They say they're NXT's welcome committee. They tell her that they are in charge. Dana says they ran Charlotte and Becky out of NXT, and tell Asuka to leave. Asuka leaves, but flashes them a horrifying smile at the top of the ramp. Emma and Dana look terrified.
- Tyler Breeze is backstage, where we learn that he'll face Apollo Crews at TakeOver: Respect. Crews shows up and trolls him a little bit.
- We see an update for the Dusty Rhodes Classic. Enzo & Cass face Balor & Joe next week. Hype Bros will take on Jordan & Gable this weekend on a live event.
NXT Tag Team Championship
The Vaudevillians (c) vs. Blake & Murphy (w/ Alexa Bliss)
Blue Pants runs out to start the match, and scares Alexa Bliss to the back, but not before some horrible punches. Blake is sent outside by English, where Blake fights back with a back suplex to the apron as we go to commercial.
We come back to see Murphy with English in a chinlock, but English busts out and manages the hot tag. Gotch hits Murphy with a beautiful suplex to Murphy. English gets knees on a Swanton attempt, and is almost pinned.
Blake and Murphy go for a double suplex, but Murphy is tossed from the ring, and Blake eats a Whirling Dervish for the pin!
Winners: The Vaudevillians via pinfall (Whirling Dervish) to retain the NXT Tag Team Titles
- Enzo and Cass are backstage and put over Joe and Balor, saying they respect the two. Cass says they'll send Joe and Balor home next week.
- Balor says Enzo & Cass are his friends, but Dusty was his mentor. Balor shoots Joe a look to end the show.
