Anderson Silva Close To Title Shot, Lyoto Machida's Next, Jon Jones "Odd" Testosterone Readings
- Although he's been out of action since 2013, UFC President Dana White said that the legendary Anderson Silva will likely earn a middleweight championship fight if he defeats Nick Diaz at the end of the month at UFC 183. Silva has already lost to champion Chris Weidman twice, and has previously defeated challenger Vitor Belfort.
Silva would jump the likes of Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero, and Jacare Souza for the shot. Despite the carrot dangling in front of Silva's face, Dana White isn't sure that Silva is a slam dunk for the win.
"It's an interesting fight. After the injury, where is Anderson going to be mentally? He does the right thing and is going to be in shape, but will he throw the leg kicks the way he used to? Nick Diaz hasn't fought in a while. So who knows, we'll see what happens," White said on UFC Tonight.
- Speaking of the middleweight division, the aforementioned Luke Rockhold will be taking on former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida in April at UFC on FOX. Rockhold is working off of three consecutive finishes, while Lyoto Machida got back to his winning ways with a one minute TKO of CB Dolloaway last month.
- MMA Junkie noted that an anti-doping expert said that Jon Jones' abnormal testosterone readings on his pre-fight drug tests warranted a CIR test to further investigate them. Jones' numbers were incredibly low for someone of that age.
The reason that's suspect is because generally someone of Jones' age and activity level would have at least a normal, if not slightly above normal testosterone to epitestosterone ratings. Jones' numbers were incredibly low, which can sometimes happen when cycling off of PED's. For what it's worth, the Nevada Athletic Commission Executive Director Bob Bennett told Bleacher Report that a CIR (carbon isotope ratio) test was done, and those results were not a concern.
