Alberto Del Rio In Talks With Top MMA Organization
MMAFighting.com spoke with Bellator President Scott Coker yesterday, who confirmed that the mixed martial arts organization has been in talks with José Alberto Rodríguez, f.k.a. Alberto Del Rio.
"I think that we did reach out," Coker said. "I'm not sure where that is and by no means is it in the 11th hour, but I know there's some dialogue going on."
Coker noted that Rodríguez "has had a lot of great MMA fights" in the past, and seeing him squaring off against fighters on the Bellator roster would be a "fun time."
Rodríguez competed in MMA from 2001 – 2010 and has a 9-5 record. His last fight saw him lose to Yamamoto Hanshi via TKO at Cage of Combat 4: Spanish Bombs in early 2010. Perhaps his most famous fight was his head kick knockout loss to Mirko Cro Cop in PRIDE in 2003, which you can watch above.
