UFC 170 Results: Ronda Rousey Defends Gold, Daniel Cormier Makes Light Heavyweight Debut

Ernest Chavez defeated Yosdenis Cedeno via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 30-27)

Erik Koch defeated Rafaello Oliveira via TKO (punches) at 1:24 of Round 1

Zach Makovsky defeated Josh Sampois via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Aljamain Sterling defeated Cody Gibson via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Raphael Assunção defeated Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Alexis Davis defeated Jessica Eye via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

MAIN CARD

Robert Whittaker vs. Stephen Thompson

Round 1: Whittaker comes out with a straight hand in the opening seconds. Thompson on the outside and looks for some head kicks. Lots of movement by both men and they're looking for combinations. Thompson misses a big hook leg kick. Thomas rocks Whittaker with a right hand and jumps all over Whittaker. He's nailing several shots to a downed Whittaker. Whittaker tries to stand, but Thomas won't let him up and the referee steps in.

Mike Pyle vs. TJ Waldburger

Round 1: They touch gloves. Waldburger starts with a leg kick then goes for a head kick. Both measuring each other and Waldburger gets the clinch against the cage. Back to the center and Waldburger slips on a thrown kick, but gets up before Pyle can do anything. Waldburger goes for a clinch and Pyle puts them on the ground. They stand and go against the cage with Pyle landing some knees. Pyle puts Waldburger on the ground as the round ends.

Round 2: Pyle blocks a head kick by Waldburger as they trade offense in the center of the Octagon. Waldburger goes for a kick to the midsection and Pyle grabs it and puts them on the ground. Waldburger is bleeding from the nose. As they stand, Pyle gets a knee to the head. Waldburger throwing mostly punches now. Spinning kick by Pyle doesn't connect. Waldburger goes for a clinch and pushes Pyle against the cage. They break with 30 seconds left in the round.

Round 3: Close fight as they enter the final round. Nice combination by Waldburger. Pyle with a big right hand and Waldburger tries to get a takedown, but it doesn't happen. Pyle with a spinning backfist and it drops Waldburger for a moment. He's up and they clinch. Pyle with two big elbows and he has a guillotine choke on the ground but Waldburger slips out. It looks like Waldburger was out cold, but he wakes up from a punch. Still on the ground and Pyle with more elbows as Waldburger looks to be out. Herb Dean steps in to stop this one. It looked like a late stoppage.

Rory MacDonald vs. Demian Maia

Round 1: MacDonald full of energy to start the fight. They're on the ground quickly with Maia on top. Maia mounts MacDonald, who has a butterfly guard. MacDonald is already bleeding from the eye as he tries to escape. After about three minutes, MacDonald gets up and he lands a leg kick. Maia with several punches as MacDonald is in trouble early on.

Round 2: They're in the center trading shots and MacDonald looks to have regained the momentum after a body kick. Maia has slowed down with several of his takedowns being stuffed. Maia looks hurt and has slowed down drastically from the previous round. MacDonald is starting to pick Maia apart with a minute left. Small chant for MacDonald starts and Maia is bleeding. Maia still looks wobbly as the round ends.

Round 3: MacDonald stuffs another takedown from Maia. MacDonald has his head low and connects with more shots to the body. Maia gets a takedown on the ground and MacDonald is trying to stand. Lots of blood coming from Maia. They're up and trade blows. Maia goes for his 17th takedown but he's tired and hurt with less than a minute to go. An aggressive MacDonald is tagging Maia with shots. Maia can't get a takedown as the round ends.

Daniel Cormier vs. Patrick Cummins

Round 1: No touch of gloves, which isn't a surprise. Cummins with a few early shots, but he can't get a takedown. Cormier with a huge uppercut early on. Cormier puts him against the cage and starts nailing punches. Lots of aggression from Cormier and he gets on top of Cummins. He's just throwing tons of mean punches and shoves Cummins to the ground as the referee steps in. Easy win for Cormier, who destroyrd Cummins.

Daniel Cormier defeated Patrick Cummins via TKO (punches) at 1:19 of Round 1

Women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey vs. Sara McMann

Round 1: They touch gloves and Rousey has her mean face on. They're throwing punches right off the bat with McMann looking to get the better of the two. Rousey puts her against the cage and is looking for a hip toss. McMann won't let her get it. Rousey with a knee to the liver and McMann drops quickly. Herb Dean stops the fight to a mixed reaction.
