Impact Wrestling Review: Bully Ray Narrates The Aces And Eights Diaries
Hulk Hogan bringing out Samoa Joe, Magnus, Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy was a decent way to atone for their failure to outfight the Aces and Eights last week. The writing was on the wall that some sort of match was going to take place, and that is exactly what happened.
The TNA Tag Team Championship match was decent. The "Dirty Heels" should remain championships to continue to get over as a team. Hernandez is caught in between a rock and a hard place, though. He is a great wrestler, who is superbly agile for his size. He also is over with the crowd, and puts on good matches.
The glass ceiling factor that will not allow him to be in the main event scene is his mic work. It is not good whatsoever. As a result, we will have to settle for just getting good matches from "SuperMex." Hopefully TNA gives him some kind of opportunity in the singles division again, possibly winning the TV title in the near future.
It was good to see Sonjay Dutt back?although this may only be for one night. It still baffles me how Dutt has never won the X Division Championship, and he helped create the division. Everyone else who helped create it?AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn, Amazing Red, Jay Lethal, Christopher Daniels, Kazarian, Petey Williams, Chris Sabin, and Low-Ki?all have been X Division champions.
So Taryn Terrell is now officially in the Knockouts division. Eh... ok. I guess it is good for her, because seemingly she was getting bored with just being a referee. Poor Gail Kim, though. It seems inevitable that she is going to put Terrell over, which is a huge step down from her previous adversaries.
Matt Morgan defeating Joseph Park is a step in the right direction for him. It seemed like they were just trying to continue the Joseph Park semi-push, but Morgan put an end to that. Morgan is sort of in a bad spot, however. As a heel, he is automatically secondary as far as being in the main event picture, seeing how the biggest concentration now is TNA vs. Aces and Eights. When it all subsides, I don't know if Morgan will be a top guy?again.
The AJ Styles interview segment was good. The fact that he didn't say anything was a good cliffhanger, and the Tazz and James Storm dynamic was a smart way to keep the angle fresh. He did draw a bit of heel heat at the end, so I wonder if TNA are going to run with that. Maybe this is leading to a Storm vs. Styles feud, which could be a good spot for the both of them for the time being.
The four-way match to determine the No. 1 contender for the TNA World Heavyweight Title was very good. I expected this match to deliver, and that it did. I do believe that Hardy was the wrong choice to win, though. Samoa Joe was over with the crowd the most, and Kurt Angle was just about equivalent in popularity. Magnus has a ton of potential, and I am glad that they are putting him in the main event scene.
The best choice, in my opinion, would have been Kurt Angle. He has been involved in the Aces and Eights angle more than any of them, and vying for the World Heavyweight Championship would be a good way to get retribution for both himself and TNA. Plus, a world title match between Kurt Angle and Bully Ray would be a good hard-hitting match to see at Slammiversary.
Bully Ray explaining how the Aces and Eights came about was a great addition to the show, and it made it all come full circle.
