Starting in 1992, New Japan Pro Wrestling commenced a pay-per-view that would be aired every year on January 4th. The popularity of this concept has reached nearly 65,000 spectators, and continues to thrive successfully as being compared to the SuperBowl and WrestleMania of Japan.

Although the pay-per-view is now called Wrestle Kingdom, it began as Japan's Starrcade, and would later be renamed in the United States as WCW-Japan Supershow.

20 years ago in 1993, Japan aired its second PPV of the series, named Fantastic Story (also named WCW-Japan Supershow III).

The event ended with these results:

- Takayuki Iizuka, Akira Nogami and El Samurai def. Nobukazu Hirai, Koki Kitahara and Masao Orihara
- Masashi Aoyagi, The Great Kabuki, Shiro Koshinaka and Akitoshi Saito def. Tatsutoshi Goto, Hiro Saito, Norio Honaga and Super Strong Machine
- Jushin "Thunder" Liger def. Ultimo Dragon (IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship)
- Ron Simmons def. Tony Halme
