Nancy Benoit's Parents Publicly Comment On Tragedy; More

For the first time since the Benoit family tragedy occurred, Nancy Benoit's parents, Paul and Maureen Toffoloni publicly commented via their attorney, Richard Decker.

Richard Decker said to an ESPN.com writer; "We're trying to stay out of their way right now," "In the meantime, Maureen and Paul and Sandra [Nancy's sister] have asked me to ask members of the media and public to remember that this is an investigation of the death of their daughter and only grandchild. And even though Chris and Nancy led public lives, the family, specifically Daniel, did not lead a public life."

The attorney also noted that Nancy Benoit's parents were unaware of Daniel Benoit, their grandson was suffering from Fragile X syndrome which is a potential theory to what of caused this tragedy. Decker said, "To them, he's always been a normal, healthy, happy child with no signs of illness." He added "And that's not from a distance. That's from day-to-day contact. There has been a lot of speculation and rumor in the media that is doing nothing to advance the investigation and doing everything to cause the Toffolonis intense pain."

It was also noted by Richard Decker that the family asked him to look into the possibility of a civil lawsuit, however it was not mentioned on who or what it would be filed against.
