Chris Benoit's Mother Questioned If Tragedy Could Have Been Prevented

Chris Benoit's mother, Margaret Benoit, questioned the fact whether Chris Benoit could still be alive if federal agents had acted on their knowledge that her son was an excessive purchaser of steroids, when speaking to the Toronto Star.

Margaret Benoit said, "We would certainly hope so. We just don't know. We're dealing with so many things. It's incredible," when asked if quicker action by investigators may have prevented the Benoit family tragedy.

The DEA acknowledges they were aware of Benoit's steroid purchases as part of a separate investigation, a spokesman Rusty Payne says "it's ridiculous for anyone to think we could have known that anything like that could have happened." Payne added that most investigations are to stop traffickers and distributors, not users. "We can arrest and prosecute users, but they are not the target or focus of most investigations".
