Former WWE Star Melina Reveals Reason She Received Death Threats From Fans
Death threats, unfortunately, come with the territory in regard to those in the pro wrestling business, from wrestlers like Baron Corbin to even promoters like AEW's Tony Khan receiving them in recent times.
Former WWE Women's Champion Melina hasn't been immune to such harassment either. In an interview with "Wrestling Shoot Interviewers," when asked about creepy fan behavior she experienced, Melina revealed the bulk of it occurred during her on-again, off-again relationship with John Hennigan, aka current AEW star Johnny TV.
"I think the only times things have gotten crazy is when I dated John," Melina said. "I got a lot of death threats all the time. People wanted to kill me, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh. What if this is how I die? Just because I'm dating you? Dude.' And he's like, 'Nothing's going to happen to you.' And I'm like, 'I don't know, a lot of these people are really serious. Oh my goodness, this is insane.'"
In addition to the death threats, Melina also revealed she, or her family, would occasionally receive things in the mail from fans, and that she had taken precautions on social media to clear out her DMs in order to avoid weird messages. Melina, though, was adamant that she was quite fortunate to have not dealt with some of the abuse others had gone through.
"I've been actually very lucky," Melina said. "Everybody ... all my fans are sweet. They're all nice and cool."
Former Ring of Honor star Allison Danger has also in the past highlighted death threats she and many of her contemporaries faced when women's wrestling first started in ROH years ago.
