Why Ted DiBiase Says Virgil Doesn't Belong In WWE Hall Of Fame

The requirements for a WWE Hall of Fame induction are nebulous. There is no single line that can really be threaded between those who have made the cut — other than, in most cases, being employed by WWE at one time or another. But that doesn't stop wrestlers and fans alike from coming up with their own criteria for what makes someone qualified for entry. On the latest episode of "Everybody's Got a Pod," Ted DiBiase was asked if his former bodyguard Virgil belonged in the WWE Hall of Fame.

"No," DiBiase said rather matter-of-factly. "Virgil — he was a valet. Period. He never wrestled. The only wrestling match he may have had was with me and that was short-lived because, honestly, he's a nice enough guy. He's just not that wrestling savvy. There's just no other way to put it."

"The Million Dollar Man" went on to explain that Virgil was always able to maintain an impressive physique, crediting Virgil for maintaining his look for a long time — but that doesn't make a Hall of Famer in DiBiase's book. "If he had any real wrestling ability, I mean in terms of understanding what we do ... we could've had a really good program, but he just doesn't have it," he added.

In fairness to Virgil, the former Million Dollar Champion wrestled his share of matches in the CWA as Soul Train Jones, even winning the promotion's AWA International Heavyweight Title. That was before he became an enhancement talent in WWE, where he wrestled hundreds of matches before finally facing DiBiase in 1991. In fact, Virgil has wrestled over 800 matches throughout his 38 years in the business — for the CWA, WWE, WCW, and on the independent scene. His last match was in 2020.
