How The Street Profits Helped Bayley Coin Her 'Dos Straps' Moniker

Since debuting with WWE in 2013 as part of the "NXT" brand, Bayley has won just about everything that can be won. She's a former "NXT" Women's Champion, three-time WWE Women's Champion (once with "WWE Raw," twice with "WWE SmackDown"), and a two-time WWE Women's Tag Team Champion — as well as the first-ever WWE Women's Grand Slam Champion.

But she elevated herself to another level entirely after turning heel on Becky Lynch during an episode of "WWE Raw" on September 2, 2019. Her turn was particularly jarring because up until this point Bayley had been nothing but the ultimate babyface, connecting with audiences — and especially younger fans — across the globe.

By this time, "The Role Model" had already been "SmackDown" Women's Champion since May after successfully cashing in her Money in the Bank contract against then-champion Charlotte Flair. A year later, she would add another title to her collection when she and Sasha Banks teamed up to defeat Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross for the women's tag titles. "Bayley Dos Straps" was born.

But as it turns out, the moniker itself wasn't all her idea.

Bayley Sought Help From the Street Profits

Speaking in an interview in July 2020 (via Newsweek), Bayley credited the Street Profits for helping her create 'Bayley Dos Straps.'

"I was getting all these tweets about Becky and my timeline was filled with Becky," Bayley said. "For reals, how am I going to get the attention on me and not think of Becky? So I was talking to the Street Profits, actually. 'Guys, help me come up with a name.' And we were just spit-balling names and dumb ideas. I'm Mexican, so it was like, 'Can we say dos? It's Spanish, not even English,' and somehow in the midst of the conversation we came up with 'Bayley Dos Straps.' That's it. It's ridiculous, I'm going to do it."

Just a few months prior, Lynch had dubbed herself 'Becky Two Belts' after winning both the "WWE Raw" and "WWE Smackdown" Women's Championships in a triple threat, winner-take-all WrestleMania main event between Lynch, Flair, and Ronda Rousey. The similarity of 'Bayley Dos Straps' was no accident, and spoke to the impressive character work Bayley was doing despite her relative inexperience as a heel.
