Apollo Crews Talks Having To Change His Name, Not Thinking The WWE Knew Him, Main Roster, More

WWE NXT star Apollo Crews was interviewed by the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast recently. You can check out a few highlights below, and the full interview in the video player above.

- Crews says that he keeps getting overwhelmed by moments and reactions, but then something bigger happens. He brings up the NXT shows in Brooklyn and London as awesome moments.

- Joining the WWE was always his goal. Crews said he had no clue if the WWE knew about him while he was traveling around the world. In his family, saying he wanted to be a pro wrestler wasn't a normal thing.

- Crews' father lives in Ethiopa and works with the U.N"

- He says that he took gymnastics as a kid, and would just dream up acrobatic things to try, then would go and do it on his bed or a trampoline. He would eventually move to trying things on grass.

- Crews likes that people don't expect a high flying or acrobatic style out of him. He said that he thinks that's what helped him get so far before he was signed by the WWE.

- He was always enamored by bigger pro wrestlers like The Ultimate Warrior. He hit the 1,000 pound club in school, where weightlifting class was a requirement. He got his nickname 'Uhaa Nation' while in school.

- Crews didn't mind changing his name, because bigger indy stars than him had to come in and change their names as well. He was willing to start from scratch during his WWE run.

- Crews is in no hurry to get to the WWE main roster, because he has goals and tasks that he wants to accomplish in NXT first. He says that becoming NXT Champion is one of those goals.

- Filming Breaking Ground was different for him, because he's never had a camera following him around. He says that there were days where they filmed him for an entire day. He hopes people get a new respect from seeing what the NXT talents go through. Their only off day at NXT is on Sundays.

- The most challenging physical task at the Performance Center to Crews is the repetitiveness, and the different pain that he feels every day from working all the time. Crews puts over their strength and conditioning coach and new yoga regimen the Performance Center has. His training center in Atlanta was a warehouse.

- He still hangs out with Solomon Crowe, and mentions he hangs out with Angelo Dawkins, too. Crews says he thinks it's cool that fans can see that on episodes of Breaking Ground, too.

- He's started to get recognized around Orlando. He also says that people in his apartment complex are starting to recognize him from his WWE NXT work, too.

- Crews prefers himself as a singles wrestler, although he's not opposed to having a tag partner. He also says that he's open to having a manager.
