UFC Releases Over A Dozen More Fighters, More Coming?

We reported yesterday that Ultimate Fighting Championship has been doing some major trimming to their roster, and that more cuts were coming, as the company tries to make things a little more manageable. It didn't take long for those additional cuts to happen.

The UFC released over a dozen more fighters this week, with no particularly major names released. Perhaps the biggest cut was former Ultimate Fighter Winner Amir Sadollah. All of Sadollah's 11 pro fights came in the UFC, where he went 6-5. However, the 35 year old has fought once in three years, and hasn't won a fight since May 2012.

Ron Stallings, Lewis Gonzalez, Joe Merritt, Roger Zapata, Christos Giagos, William Macario, TJ Waldburger, Luke Zachrich, Roger Narvaez, Ivan George, Pawel Pawlek, Hernani Pepetuo, Vagner Rocha, Naoyuki Kotani, David Michaud, and Jorde de Oliveira were all also released.

The most surprising UFC of all was that of 22-5 Soa Palelei, who went 4-2 in the UFC's Heavyweight division. Heavyweight MMA is notoriously thin, and Palelei is from Australia, a market the UFC is aggressively expanding into. However, unlike the others, Palelei chose to retire.

The UFC is apparently looking to cut 50 or more names total, and are nearing 30 now. Wrestling Inc will keep you updated if another round of cuts happens.
