Retro Wednesday: Steve Austin Takes Care Of Kurt Angle's Gold Medals

The 107th edition of SmackDown was certainly a memorable one. The date was August 30, 2001. WWE and WCW employees were caught in the crossfires of an intense rivalry between the McMahons. Meanwhile, top stars "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Kurt Angle were leading the pack, and engaging in a heated game of one-upsmanship.

In the main event, Kurt Angle faced Booker T, and was successful. All of a sudden, after an Angle celebration, we get a camera shot of Austin outside calling him out. Not only was he out to successfully defend his championship that he held since WrestleMania 17, but he was also destined to defame the top contender.

Interestingly, Austin had a specific way that he knew would get under Angle's skin – messing with his gold medals. Outside, Austin had these words, and much more, to say to Angle:

"You know what we've got here, Kurt? Its a sewer. You know every time these people here in Detroit flush their commodes, this is where it runs to Kurt, right here in the sewer. Mmm, take a good smell... ugh! That smells like... what? If you don't wanna talk to me, if you don't wanna talk to me Kurt, I can put your little gold medals right here, right here where they belong, in the sewer, cuz they mean nothing to me!

No. Yes. No. What? What? What? I can't make up my mind Kurt... What? Do I put them in the sewer? Huh? No no no. No Kurt. I got a better idea for your stupid little gold medals."

Austin would proceed to eventually throw the medals in the river, and follow up with his infamous one-word phrase – What?

Such a classic SmackDown moment.
