Retro Wednesday: Mabel Wins King Of The Ring

In 1993, The team of Men on a Mission debuted in the WWE, comprising of Mabel, Oscar and Mo. The team was mildly over as babyfaces, and biggest achievement was winning the WWE tag team titles at a house show, only having them for two days.

In 1995, Mabel and Mo had a change of attitude, turning on their rapping manager Oscar and becoming heels. When the team turned heel, Mo transitioned into a manager and Mabel became a top heel for the company.

At the King of the Ring pay-per-view, Mabel defeated Adam Bomb, the Undertaker and Savio Vega to win the crown in 1995, changing his name to King Mabel. He would use this momentum to compete against Diesel at Summerslam, as well as commence a feud with the Undertaker that started with him giving Taker multiple leg drops to the face and fracturing his orbital bone. This feud culminated at In Your House in December of the same year.

Mabel would go on after his departure and return to be a Ministry of Darkness enforcer, and pajama-wearing love machine, and a completely repackaged big man in the land of the "extreme."

Whether as Mabel, Viscera, Big Vis or Big Daddy V, Nelson Frazier was a great workhorse for the WWE. Even with his near-500 pound frame, Frazier showed an incredible level of agility for someone his size, and contributed so much to the WWE in the 15 years that he was affiliated with the company.

He will surely be missed, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all his loved ones. Vince McMahon saw something special in him at a young age of just 21, and his tenure and work in the company proved that McMahon made a good and loyal investment.

Gone, but not forgotten.
