"I lost the fight to GSP, but tonight was so much grappling and scrambling -- it was exhausting," said Shields. "The Brazilian fans are so hostile, it makes it tougher. Tough fight, but luckily I got through."
The win over Maia puts Shields at 3-0, with one No Contest since his loss to St-Pierre.

UFC president Dana White was not at all amused, and cracked a joke at the Brazilian's expense over Twitter. He tweeted:
