UFC News: Jon Jones Says Fans Will 'Witness A Dream Come True' At UFC 165
At 26 and already being heralded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, Jones would add another impressive accolade to his resume by defeating Gustafsson -- an impressive feat by itself -- in that he would surpass Tito Ortiz's record for most consecutive 205-pound title defenses. The surging and understandably confident Jones predicts that Saturday night will turn out to be another stepping stone on his path to unprecedented greatness.
"You'll be able to witness a dream come true," predicts the champion. "You'll see me surpass Tito's record. I'm more dominant than ever. My cardio is better than ever. My tactics are better than ever. It'll be domination baby!"
Rather than focusing on either man's considerable skill set, the narrative leading up to this fight has focused mostly on the fact that Gustafsson will be one of Jones' only like-sized opponents. In that regard, Jones believes the fight will be decided by skills, rather than either fighter's physical measurements.
"I think Alexander uses his reach really well, but he doesn't use his as well as I use mine," said Jones. "If you watch his fights, he gets hit in the face a lot. He does a lot of things that I do, but I think I do them better."
Jones' predictions will be tested this Saturday at UFC 165, which takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The fight card will also feature an interim bantamweight title fight between interim champ Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland.
