WWE NXT Recap: Sami Zayn TV Debut, Graves Battles Wyatt, Mason Ryan In Action, More
NXT opens with a match this week.
Curt Hawkins vs. Sami Zayn
This is Sami Zayn's TV NXT debut. They tie up and Hawkins backs Zayn into the corner. The ref breaks it up and Hawkins locks in a side headlock. Zayn pushes him to the ropes and Hawkins lands a shoulder knockdown. He bounds off the ropes and Zayn lands multiple arm drag takedowns (William Regal is talking a lot about Zayn's wrestling experience on commentary). Zayn lands two chops in the corner and then mounts Hawkins and punches him multiple times. Hawkins pushes him off and Zayn charges, but Hawkins puts a boot up. Hawkins lands a big kick to Zayn's head.
Hawkins kicks Zayn in the stomach on the mat and then locks in a headlock. Zayn fights out and goes to the corner. Hawkins charges him, but Zayn moves and Hawkins crashes into the corner. Zayn lands a pair of clotheslines and a dropkick. Hawkins comes back with a body slam. Zayn then hits a modified tornado DDT from the top rope for the win.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Antonio Cesaro vs. Yoshi Tatsu
They tie up and Cesaro powers Tatsu into the corner. He knees Tatsu and whips him into another corner. He charges and Tatsu moves. Tatsu lands a crossbody, followed by multiple kicks. He bounds off the ropes and Cesaro lands the European uppercut, followed by the Neutralizer for the win.
Winner: Antonio Cesaro
After the match Cesaro takes the mic up and asks if Tatsu is the best competition he can get. He says he puts the W in WWE and that there is nobody on any show that can hold a candle to what he does in the ring.
Sami Zayn then comes out on the ramp with a mic. He questions if Cesaro said he has no competition. Zayn says the audience doesn't agree with him. He then says that if he is looking for competition, followed by something in Arabic. Zayn then says something in French. He says if Cesaro is looking for competition, he will give it to him. Zayn gets into the ring.
Antonio Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn
They tie up and Cesaro lands a fireman's carry. They chain wrestle back and forth briefly and Cesaro keeps Zayn's wrist locked in. Zayn jumps up on the top rope and does a springboard backflip to escape. Cesaro bails to the outside as things go to commercial. Back from commercial and Cesaro has Zayn against the ropes. Cesaro lifts Zayn up and drops him on the top rope. Cesaro whips Zayn into two corners and then locks in a chin lock.
Cesaro knees him in the gut and then a hits double boot stomp. Cesaro lands a clothesline for a near pin fall. Zayn fights back with a heel kick. He goes to the corner, Cesaro charges and Zayn sidesteps. Zayn hits a roll up attempt. Cesaro kicks out hard, which sends Zayn to the apron. Zayn drapes Cesaro's neck across the top rope and goes up top. He tries for a crossbody, but Cesaro catches him and counters into a back breaker. Cesaro hits Zayn with a running uppercut in the corner for a near pin fall. He then hits Zayn with a series of jabs in the corner.
Cesaro picks Zayn up for a vertical Suplex and Zayn hits a quick roll up for the win.
Winner: Sami Zayn
After the match, Cesaro attacks Zayn and punches him multiple times. He then hits Zayn with the Neutralizer. Renee Young is then shown backstage. She starts talking about whom she is about to interview and Emma walks up. She tells Young she is here. Young says she doesn't have an interview scheduled with her and Emma says she is ready to be interviewed.
Audrey Marie then walks up and asks why Emma is there because she was scheduled for the interview. Emma tells her it's okay and not to be sorry. Emma calls her by the wrong name twice and Marie yells at her. Emma tells her not to shout and asks if she's stressed out. Emma says dancing always helps her when she's stressed and starts dancing. Marie says no one likes her stupid dancing and tells her to get out or she will take her out. Emma says she is starving and would love to eat. Marie tells her just to go and Emma says fine. She starts dancing away and pokes Marie in the eye.
Enzo Amore then comes out for a match. He says his name and then he says he is a certified G. He says when he looks at the NXT roster he sees nothing but fake tough guys. He says everyone is a G until a G walks in the room. He gets in the ring and says he is the realest guy in the room.
Enzo Amore vs. Mason Ryan
They tie up and Mason easily tosses Amore across the ring. He then hits Amore in the corner and lands a huge clothesline that flips Amore in the air. He then picks Amore up and tosses him onto the turnbuckle. Mason follows up with a running clothesline. He then hits Amore with a torture rack neckbreaker for the win.
Winner: Mason Ryan
Corey Graves vs. Bray Wyatt (with the Wyatt Family)
Wyatt backs Graves into the corner and then tosses him back. They tie up and Graves backs Wyatt into the corner. Wyatt charges Graves and Graves lands a drop toehold. Graves locks in a front face lock. Wyatt keeps trying to fight out, but Graves keeps it locked in. Wyatt finally shoves him off and Graves lands a dropkick, knocking Wyatt's facemask off. He bails outside and puts the mask back on. Wyatt heads back inside and lands a series of strikes. He whips Graves into the corner and charges, but Graves puts a boot up. Graves goes up top and locks in a figure four using the ropes.
The ref breaks it up and Graves drops to the floor. He heads back inside the ring and Wyatt bounds off the ropes, landing a crossbody. Back from commercial and Wyatt is attacking Graves outside the ring. He headbutts Graves and tosses him in the ring. Wyatt drops a pair of elbows. Graves fights to his feet. Wyatt whips him to the ropes and charges, but Graves pulls the ropes down and Wyatt crashes to the floor. Graves tries to hit a slide, but Wyatt sidesteps and pushes Graves into the steps.
Wyatt sits on the steps and kicks Graves in the chest. He tosses Graves back into the ring and lands an elbow to the head. Wyatt tosses him into the corner and lands a body avalanche. He tries to clothesline Graves, who reverses into a roll up attempt. Graves lands a crossbody, followed by a series of punches and a knee to the nose. Graves takes Wyatt's knee out and tries to lock in his 13th Step submission, but Rowan gets up on the apron. Graves hits him off, Luke Harper gets on the apron and Graves hits him off too.
He takes out Wyatt's knee again and locks in the 13th Step. Rowan distracts the ref and Harper drops an elbow on Graves to break the submission. Wyatt lands Sister Abigail for the win.
Winner: Bray Wyatt
After the match, the Wyatt Family attacks Graves. Kassius Ohno runs out and attacks the family and then Bray Wyatt. The Wyatt family pulls Ohno off Wyatt and attacks him. Wyatt lands Sister Abigail on Ohno to end the show.
