WWE Live Event Results From Birmingham (4/20): The Shield Headlines, Del Rio Vs. Swagger
Thanks to WrestlingINC.com reader Oliver Payne for sending in these results from last night's SmackDown live event in Birmingham, England:
(1) EIGHT MAN TAG TEAM MATCH
Santino Marella, Ted DiBiase, Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre defeated The PrimeTime Players and Primo & Epico (w/Rosa Mendes)
Crowd really in to Santino, big pop when he hit the Cobra, and got the pin. Usual comedy gold from Santino, a good start to the show.
(2) SINGLES MATCH
Fandango defeated Alex Riley
Fandango's music got a huge pop, but his berating of our attempts to pronounce his name made us boo him. Several chants of his music throughout the match. Fandango wins after a jumping complete shot/STO type move, similar to one of R-Truth's signature moves.
(3) DIVAS MATCH – HORNSWOGGLE GUEST RING ANNOUNCER
Natalya defeated Alicia Fox
Alicia played up to the crowd, playing a more heel role. Alicia outsmarted Natalya several times and managed to get out of several sharpshooter attempts, before finally getting caught and tapping out.
(4) SINGLES MATCH
Mark Henry defeated The Great Khali
Typical Khali/Henry match, Khali dominated mostly with chest slaps, chops to the head and finally got caught with a World's Strongest Slam, after attempting the Punjabi Plunge on Henry. "That's what I do!" after the match.
(5) NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH – ZEB COLTER BANNED FROM RINGSIDE
Alberto Del Rio defeated Jack Swagger
Colter came out with Swagger and slated the British empire and compared England to the USA with immigrants, then he told immigrants to leave. Jack Swagger could save England, and it could become Jack Swagger's England. Decent No DQ match, with lots of 'We want tables' chants. Swagger obliged, bringing it in to the match... It was used near the finish, Del Rio felt the effects, but he made a come back and made Swagger tap to the cross armbreaker.
INTERMISSION
(6) INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Wade Barrett defeated Justin Gabriel
Wade got a big pop from the crowd. Both superstars attempted finishers midway through the match, but the other avoided it. Gabriel got caught coming off the top tope with a Bullhammer out of nowhere.
(7) SINGLES MATCH
Randy Orton defeated Big Show
Big Show played up to the pro-Orton crowd and attempted a walk out, only to be brought back to the ring. Orton hit a DDT on Big Show off the top rope, and both superstars traded signature moves and counters. Big Show went for the WMD, but Orton played possum and nailed him with an RKO and the victory.
(8) SIX MAN TAG TEAM MATCH
The New Age Outlaws & Sheamus defeated The Shield by DQ
Fantastic team work by The Shield, isolating Road Dogg for a lot of the match. Lots of 'You've Still Got It' chants towards Road Dogg and Billy Gunn, The Shield played off this and knocked them down each time a chant was made. Finish came when Sheamus attempted a Brogue Kick and was hit in the gut with a chair by Reigns. The Shield attempted a Triple Powerbomb on Sheamus, but the Outlaws evened the odds with a steel chair and they all hit finishing moves on Seth Rollins.
Overall, a 7/10 for the show. Shame there was no World Champion, but a decent effort in the second half of the show to make up for it. Arena was approx 80-85% full.
